Project Topic: Modern reinforced concrete (RC) buildings are permitted to experience damage during design-level earthquakes as part of energy dissipation strategies embedded in current seismic codes. However, this approach often results in significant post-earthquake consequences: buildings may require extensive repair and retrofitting after moderate shaking, or even demolition following severe events. To reduce these outcomes, it is essential to define a new seismic performance threshold that enables buildings to remain usable after earthquakes with minimal repair needs and limited disruption to occupants. This project focuses on establishing a repairability limit state for code-conforming RC structures, providing a framework for evaluating and improving their post-earthquake usability.
